Klaus Wowereit was the governing mayor of Berlin from 2001 to 2014 and most senior head of government in his office of any federal German state. He was also a vice federal chairmen for the SPD from 2009 to 2013. Under his leadership, Berlin developed into a global hotspot for creative start-up companies. As a politician, he was unambiguous in his choice of words and immediately began the consolidation of the, at the time, critical financial situation of Berlin after taking office despite massive opposition from individual lobbying groups.
